The co-headlining tour featuring AFI and Circa Survive is a union of two generations of pop-punk and emo. With their origins in the early ’90s, AFI are the elder statesmen of the tour, having influenced a legion of bands who came after them. One of those is Circa Survive, which released its first album a decade after AFI’s debut. Both bands boast powerful lyrics and anthemic hooks.

AFI, pictured, began in the Southern California punk scene of the ’90s, but in later years the band has embraced a dark, moody aesthetic. Circa Survive began in 2004 with members of emo bands Saosin and This Day Forward, coming together to create a little more experimental music. The band’s most recent album was released in 2014, but new material has been promised. Until then, you can catch them alongside one of the bands that helped mold them.
