Album The Temple of I & I continues the lineage of musically dense, club-worthy bangers with a social conscience. “Letter to the Editor,” featuring Raquel Jones on vocals, has a Jamaican dancehall vibe with electronic sounds permeating the backbeat.

The duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton met in Washington D.C. at Hilton’s Eighteenth Street Lounge. The two were fans of so many musical styles, from jazz to Brazilian bossa nova, that they decided to mash it all up in the studio and see what would happen. What emerged is a genre-bending musical landscape with influences from all over the world.

“Lebanese Blonde” was released in 1997 as a single but the combination of the Middle Eastern strings, that bossa nova percussion, the pounding trumpets and smooth vocals courtesy of Pam Bricker could be played at any lounge today and still feel of the moment. It’s a perfect example of just how layered the tandem’s work is and how thrilling it can be at its most successful.
