There’s a quote from last year on The Revolution’s Facebook bio that sums up their purpose: “Only by playing for you, the fans, can we be Prince’s Revolution. He gives Us 2 one another now, as we all start to heal and fill forever emptiness with sound. 2gether, we are The Revolution.” The most well-known members are Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, together known as Wendy and Lisa, who broke out and had their own string of pop and soundtrack successes. Bobby Z, BrownMark, and Doctor Fink round out the historical crew, and as a group they dip into all types of genres—rock, funk, soul, jazz, blues and pop. As Purple Rain continues to age like fine wine, The Revolution revisits and celebrates this stunning piece of art with songs played as homage to the man behind it.
