Longtime fans of Ana Gabriel that learned she was inducted into The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in October at the fifth annual La Musa Awards gala in Miami were not surprised. Gabriel became a superstar after singing her own composition, “Ay Amor,” during her 1987 performance at the OTI Festival singing competition, held in Lisbon that year. She’d score her first No. 1 Billboard Hot Latin hit later that year when “Ay Amor” rocketed to the top for 14 weeks.

Since then Gabriel has notched five more No. 1 hits and has

broken the top 10 a total of 20 total times. Gabriel has been more active on the concert stage than in the studio in recent years, but her voice remains the raspy, emotive instrument that drives devotees to pack theaters and arenas.
