The strange story of Jay and The Americans is one that could have only happened in rock ’n’ roll: The band has featured three different singers—all named Jay. Current lead singer Jay Reincke took the reins in 2006 with Sandy Deane, Howard Kane and Marty Sanders backing him. Deane and Kane are founding members of the group dating back all the way to 1960, while Sanders came along in 1962.

Their show tells the history of the group through song and pays tribute to the other Jays—first Traynor, then Black. With Traynor as the lead singer, the foursome found their first commercial success with “She Cried.” Once Black grabbed the lead, the blue-eyed soul sound that made the group legends really took form (“Come a Little Bit Closer,” “Cara Mia” and a cover of The Drifters’ “This Magic Moment”). Whichever Jay you prefer, it still sounds great.
