With songs like “Party Hard,” “It’s Time to Party,” “Party Til You Puke” and “Long Live the Party,” Andrew W.K. isn’t just the life of the party, the party is life and everyone is invited. Much like a heavy metal Bruce Springsteen, W.K. is an endearing performer of the people, almost always focusing on “us” and “we,” rather than self. But if The Boss is blue-collar, then W.K. is dirty plain white T-shirt. Truly an everyman.

He’s also a self-proclaimed motivational performer, and like most mayors of various Party Towns, W.K. inspires you to have a good time. Onstage, he bangs his head, kicks his legs and dances in circles, facilitating an environment that allows us to decide how to have fun. In “Party Hard,” W.K. sings: “We do what we want and we get it from you / do what we like and we like what we do.” Do you like to jump during a concert? Go for it. Do you like to play air drums? Then play the heck out of those imaginary tom-toms. W.K. is merely a musical point guard, tossing up a big ball of fun for you to slam dunk.
