What do the musical Jersey Boys, the hit CBS series Madam Secretary and Las Vegas all have in common? Two words … Erich Bergen.

The actor, singer and composer spent two years playing Bob Gaudio in the Las Vegas company of Jersey Boys, then reprised his role as Gaudio in the 2014 screen adaptation of the Clint Eastwood-directed musical.

Bergen said in a phone interview that he was 21 when he first arrived in town, and that “Now it feels like coming home for me,” referring to his concert at the Cabaret Jazz venue at The Smith Center.

Bergen said he doesn’t like the connotation usually associated with “cabaret.” “My show is a concert, not just my sitting on a stool. I tell stories and sing songs from my career. It’s upbeat like a fun party, not depressing and sad.”

Bergen said his heroes in entertainment are the great performers of Las Vegas who did a little of everything. “That’s what I want to do. I see my career as one thing and not as I am switching gears—one minute an actor, next singing, and so forth.

He is happy that his role as Blake Moran on Madam Secretary has given him massive exposure to the public and enjoys it when people discover that the man who plays such a dramatic character on TV is a darn good song and dance man, too. –Penny Levin
