Spamilton is the brainchild of Tony award-winning creator, writer and director Gerard Alessandrini, who fathered the iconic Broadway musical parody Forbidden Broadway and now is merrily spoofing Hamilton, one of the biggest musical sensations to hit the Great White Way.

"When I walked by the box office (for Hamilton) and saw the massive lines, I just knew this was a show that must be spoofed,” Alessandrini tells Las Vegas Magazine in a telephone interview. “Hamilton takes itself very seriously, so I knew I was the one to do it,” he merrily explains. At first he was just going to spoof one number, but the pickings were so good he decided to write an entire musical.

“I really wrote more of a parody about Lin-Manuel Miranda creating this fresh musical than about the show itself,” he adds.

And, yes Miranda came to see the show and loved it so much he returned with his entire family, said Alessandrini, who said Miranda actually tweeted out that he “laughed his brains out” after seeing Spamilton.

The parody casts a broad net beyond Hamilton. There’s also a mash-up of tunes from other hit Broadway shows such as Gypsy, The Music Man and West Side Story flowing through this exciting parody.
