Any big music fan will be green with envy when they find out what job Griselda Torres has. The Las Vegas native is the director of music hall operations for the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. That certainly is a mouthful, but in simpler terms, Torres makes sure every concert at the famed venue runs smoothly.

Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, B.B. King, Heart, Prince, Marilyn Manson, Keith Urban, she’s seen them all. “I’ve worked more than 1,000 shows, easily,” Torres said. “When I walk in here and see someone like Santana rehearsing in his sweat suit, I’m like, it blows my mind.”

So, how did Torres land such an amazing job? “I got lucky to fall into this gig,” she said. More than a decade ago she joined the Foundation Room as a concierge, then moved into the human resources department. Eventually, a position in operations at Foundation Room’s sister venue became available, and Torres was a perfect fit. It’s been seven years since she joined the music hall, and today she helps run the whole shebang.

While the music plays an important role in Torres’ daily duties, she also works closely with production, security, food and beverage and VIPs. She also helps arrange meet and greets with the artists and, most importantly, makes sure guest experience is always a positive.

“I like people to leave loving the House of Blues. We have to always keep in mind that people come here to have fun.”

In honor of Carlos Santana’s return to the House of Blues this week for his residency show, Santana: Greatest Hits Live, Torres has added the Supernatural Margarita to the cocktail list. The signature drink mixes Santana’s own tequila brand, Casa Noble, with fresh lime juice and organic agave nectar. Guests can even order it in a souvenir cup and take a piece of the magical evening home.
