Bartender promises a boot-scootin’ good time
There are many types of jobs one can have on the Las Vegas Strip—but there are few that require controlling joysticks to a mechanical bull. Enter Hannah Waggoner. When she turned 18 she was hired as a hostess at PBR Rock Bar inside Miracle Mile Shops, and eight months later she was operating the mechanical bull. “It was a fun, fun job,” said the Las Vegas native. When she turned 21 she moved into a bartending position at PBR, and now she continues slinging drinks at Redneck Riviera inside the Grand Bazaar Shops at Bally’s.
“I worked at PBR for so many years, it was time to step out of my shell so I made the move because it seemed like an awesome opportunity,” said Waggoner, who has been with the country-themed bar since its opening. “It’s a very homey, country vibe. When you walk in you definitely feel welcome at Redneck Riviera.”
The bar is the brainchild of country-music great John Rich of Big & Rich fame, “he is so nice, one of the coolest guys ever,” Waggoner said. In fact, Rich has even stopped by the bar and gotten up on stage and played guitar; other guests who’ve stopped by include Gretchen Wilson and Daryle Singletary. Waggoner has even grown to become a big country-music fan, especially since she’s been bartending at Redneck. “When I started working here, that’s when I really fell in love with country music.” You’ll even find her two-stepping out on the dance floor if the mood strikes.
And although the Strip has other country-themed bars, Waggoner wants guests to know that “there’s great competition out there, but our group of girls that we have here makes you feel at home. Come, have a great drink and have a good time.” And that’s no bull.
See that bar that’s behind Waggoner? That’s the Hero’s Bar. John Rich is a big supporter of the troops, so any veteran enjoys their first drink on the house; the offer also extends to police and firemen. One cocktail Waggoner suggests is the bar’s signature cocktail, the Redneck Riviera. “I always tell people to order it, it’s just so good,” she said. It’s mixed with Bayou rum, fresh-squeezed lime, orange and pineapple juices and grenadine.
