After a long day of poolside lounging at the Palms, one can work up quite a hunger. And as man cannot subsist on sunshine and cocktails alone, you’ll need to find sustenance somewhere. As luck would have it, just adjacent to the Palms Pool is Back Room Burger, a casual venue where all your favorites are available. But don’t fret if you’re not spending your day at the pool, as Back Room is also easily accessible from the casino.

The parade of comfort-food staples begins with La Nova chicken bites, hailing directly from Buffalo and adorned with the typical accompaniments of blue cheese and Buffalo Joe’s hot sauce. The blue cheese amply cools the sauce’s heat in each balanced bite. Beef nachos are a classy version of the rendition you might prepare for yourself at home with a generous amount of cheddar cheese sauce.

The Kobe beef hot dog is served up Rhode Island-style: topped with rich chili, mustard and onion, and swaddled in a steamed bun. And the blackened chicken quesadilla oozes with pepper jack, resulting in more than a bit of heat.

Next, foray into the burger options—including two inspired by Palms chefs. The Barry burger—named for N9NE Steakhouse executive chef Barry Dakake—layers bacon, cheddar, charred red onions and a house-made balsamic ketchup atop a char-grilled patty, while Back Room Burger executive chef Frank Newell is immortalized in the Fat Frank burger which includes crispy jalapeño mac and cheese and oven-roasted tomato sour cream. The bison burger makes it all richer with goat cheese and smoked bacon.

Back Room specializes in skinny french fries and in the ultimate example of gilding the lily, they offer up a combination of blue cheese and crispy bacon fries. I suspect someone may have been sneaking into my parlor and reading my diary, because this is just the dish I’ve been wishing for. You, too, shall thoroughly enjoy it.

Because no good food should be left unaccompanied, Back Room offers a comprehensive drink list. The beer list is quite adventurous with highlights including the robust Squatters’ Hells Keep Belgian strong pale ale, a whiskey-tinged Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout and a complex and hoppy Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA.

And an array of custard-based alcoholic treats comes in the guise of adult shakes known as Boozers. The Dreamsicle boozer combines Gran Marnier, Cuarenta y Tres Licor 43, honey and an almond crunch. The toasted marshmallow boozer is a tasty treat. Adorned with skewered, toasted marshmallows and graham cracker crumbs, it is s’mores in a glass with an adult twist: Licor 43 infuses the drink/dessert with a sharp, alcoholic kick. It’s the perfect way to finish off your Back Room experience.
