Pizza: It’s not just for ninjas or turtles anymore. American takes on the dish differ from the Neapolitan original, and these days pizza in Las Vegas has become even more varied and experimental. You can get a traditional slice at any of these Las Vegas pizza joints, but you can also try something new.

Pop Up Pizza at the Plaza has defied its name and become a downtown mainstay in recent years. Try the Goodman (with caramelized onions, mushrooms, spinach and potato) or The Plaza (white pie with red bell peppers and Italian sausage).

Aria’s Five50 Pizza Bar showcases unique pizzas and beers. Signature pies include the Forager with white sauce, mushrooms, bacon and spinach, and the Farmstead with prosciutto, egg and olives.

Slice of Vegas at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place has a clever take on wings-and-pizza with the Back East Buffalo pie: Buffalo chicken tenders, julienned carrots and julienned celery, with a little ranch and buffalo sauce. You may also want to try il Mangino, with mozzarella and ricotta cheese, grilled red onions, prosciutto and arugula salad tossed in fresh lemon juice and olive oil.

Though Pizza Rock at Downtown Grand and Pin-Up Pizza at Planet Hollywood are relative newcomers, they’ve garnered lots of attention. Pin-Up Pizza sports a pared-down menu of affordable basics starting at $4.75, and huge slices. (The pies are 30 inches in diameter!) And you’ll marvel at Pizza Rock’s vast selection from gluten-free pizzas to California-, Chicago- and of course, New York-inspired pies.
