One of the most revered steakhouse chains in the country has to be Ruth’s Chris Steak House, which has more than 100 locations all across the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including at Harrah’s Las Vegas. The brand itself stretches back to 1965, when New Orleans businesswoman Ruth Fertel bought Chris’ Steak House (which had been open since 1927) and adjusted the name. In 2013, the restaurant opened at Harrah’s Las Vegas after a previous stint at Flamingo and has been creating memories ever since.

When you step into Harrah’s Las Vegas, you’re sure to start making a memory of your own as well. The second-floor restaurant is elegant, with large floor-to-ceiling windows letting you peek outside at the Strip. The drink menu is draped in delicious spirits, and an Old-Fashioned menu lets you choose from several inventive takes on the classic, like the Japanese Old-Fashioned, featuring Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, simple syrup and orange bitters. If you prefer a mocktail, the Sunset Spritz is a lovely concoction with prickly pear purée, orange juice, lemon sour simple syrup, lemon-lime soda and pomegranate.

As befits a Southern-style steakhouse, you’ll find plenty of meaty options on the menu as well as seafood and sides. Although some folks are inclined to go straight to the mains, the other sections of the menu have many tidbits worth considering for your table, like the barbecued shrimp, which are sautéed in white wine, butter, garlic and spices; broiled mushrooms stuffed with crab meat and topped with Romano cheese; crab cakes with lemon butter (you can get these in a larger portion if you’d like to enjoy as your entrée); lobster bisque; and Ruth’s chop salad, another great option as a main. It’s stuffed with julienned iceberg lettuce, baby spinach and about a thousand other good things, and topped with lemon-basil dressing.

Speaking of that entrée, you have so many choices! If you would like something besides beef, consider the lamb chops, three extra-thick chops that have been marinated overnight. The stuffed chicken breast sports garlic-herb cheese and lemon butter, while Chilean sea bass is topped with a garlic-panko crust.

But you are probably here for one of those bad boys of beef, steaks! Ruth’s Chris Steak House has plenty; you might have a tough time deciding. For lighter appetites, there are several filets on the menu, from 4-ounce medallions (accompanied by jumbo shrimp) to a 16-ounce, specialty bone-in filet. There are variations on other cuts, with New York strips, T-bones, ribeyes, porterhouses and tomahawks, ranging in size from 16 to 40 ounces. Yes, you’ll be well fed.

Sides are plentiful as well; there are potatoes in many forms—au gratin, baked, garlic mashed and french fries, plus sweet potato casserole with pecan crust. Lobster mac and cheese, creamed spinach, pan-roasted cremini mushrooms, fire-roasted corn, cauliflower au gratin and grilled asparagus with Hollandaise all make the list—be careful; order too many and there won’t be room for the steak on the table.

For dessert, indulge in the bread pudding, with vanilla and raisin flavors and a rich Jack Daniel’s whiskey sauce.
