Throughout childhood, my mother and I never passed up an opportunity to get dolled up, make yummy little sandwiches and have a tea party. With so many fond moments, it seems like a no-brainer that a tea-date would be the perfect Mother’s Day outing. Even if you’ve never raised a pinky with the special lady in your life, it’s something she’s sure to enjoy. Who wouldn’t love a moment to feel like royalty while snacking and sipping with the ones they love?

For a traditional tea service, make a reservation at Waldorf Astoria’s 23rd floor tea lounge, Peacock Alley, for afternoon tea. The beautifully appointed room feels uplifting and airy as it’s drenched in natural light beaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Those windows provide one of the best views of the Strip (and you can trust me, I’ve seen a lot of Strip views).

Once you’ve taken in the breathtaking views, you’ll need to choose from the vast collection of green, black and herbal teas this soothing spot has to offer. Try The Meadows, a signature blend flavored with lemongrass, linden flower and natural lemon for an easy-to-drink, slightly sweet and floral blend. You can even imbibe delicious “Tea-tails” like the Mary Poppins, made with chamomile-infused cachaça, Lillet Blanc, elderflower liqueur and sage honey. If flowery flavors aren’t your fancy, try the Eliza Doolittle, made with Tanqueray, blueberry tea syrup, amaretto, champagne and lemon.

Snack on delightful warm scones (made fresh daily, of course) with lemon curd, raspberry jam and clotted cream before diving into some exquisite finger sandwiches and desserts. The egg salad bite comes almost like a cream puff, but savory and topped with caviar, while the smoked salmon and cucumber stack on pumpernickel conjures bagel and lox vibes, but with herbaceous dill and chive Boursin. For dessert, look forward to lavender blueberry macarons and a uniquely flavored strawberry basil petit choux.

If your mom is a woman of whimsy, consider afternoon tea at Electric Playhouse's Teatime in Wonderland, an immersive experience inspired by the Lewis Carroll classic fantasy novel. Covered in 360-degree projections, this dreamy space is the perfect backdrop for a fabulous adventure with The Mad Hatter and White Rabbit, complete with interactive table elements and four courses of imaginative eats, designed by chef Keris Kuwana, who you may have seen on the Food Network’s Chopped.

It’s only fitting to start this story with your very own “Eat Me, Drink Me” moment featuring a Morello cherry lime elixir and sugar cookie before diving into a fabulous salad of butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, chives, cranberries, feta cheese, almond dragees, dressed with apple cider vinaigrette and served with chinese steam cheese bao. Next, you’ll munch from a whole assortment of finger foods like the waldorf chicken salad and roast beef sandwiches and desserts like linzer tart cookies and orange yuzu semifreddo while sipping an assortment of teas like iced strawberry red rooibos or one of the March Hare’s english teas.
