Finally, inclusiveness has come to that long-segregated bastion of the bump-and-grind—the adult revue. Whatever your gender or sexual orientation, 53X at Paris Las Vegas’ Chateau Nightclub aims to titillate and turn you on with a cast of both male and female dancers, a departure from the norm of all-guy or all-gal revues.
Taking its title from an old pager readout that looks like it spells “SEX”—and set to a dance soundtrack including Jessie James, Walk the Moon and Christina Aguilera—53X is hosted with naughty good humor by bawdy drag queen Shangela (Darius J. Pierce of RuPaul’s Drag Race), who keeps the sexy segments moving, each one integrating both men and women. Though bare skin is plentiful, no pretty lady goes topless—but there’s plenty of wriggling of men’s undraped rear assets.
The art of the tease is the point of 53X.
Expect an imaginative array of dance creations, but as Shangela tells us: “There is no theme. If you wanted a theme, you should have gone to Cirque du Soleil.” Performers enter in formalwear—which is quickly shed. Guys as firemen swing their giant hose. Witness the jungle production, with furious gyrations. A gym number inevitably leaves workout clothes discarded. Ditto for a horror/vampire movie salute, channeling Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, and many other segments. And, of course, there’s audience participation.
