El Cortez Hotel & Casino, one of Las Vegas’ oldest and most-storied properties (it opened in 1941), has become a cornerstone of downtown’s art and cultural revival. It’s recently been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, and within its walls are four suites, renovated by four Las Vegas-based companies who were finalists in a design contest sponsored by the hotel. The results are a marriage of classic and modern Las Vegas, and each suite’s distinctive design features a fun and unique play on textiles, furniture and accessories.

Rec Room

Each suite is equipped with a spacious two-person jetted tub and, after mixing yourself a cocktail at the spacious in-room bar, it’s the perfect place to unwind. The vintage, more masculine touches throughout the suite make this space perfect for bachelor parties.

The Big Sleep

Inspired by the tales of the “desert dirt naps” around the time the mob ran Las Vegas, the suite features a desert backdrop and really cool, special touches that combine luxury with natural elements, like the tumbleweed lamp, rusted art pieces and limestone-tiled bathroom.

Hint

This top-floor suite feels like two rooms in one—separate living and bedroom spaces, each with its own large flat-screen TV. Dark woods and modern furnishings evoke an upscale city-life atmosphere,

perfectly pairing with vintage touches such as the multicolored, multipanel Marilyn Monroe art.

El Contempo

It’s all about the gold touch in this suite with a chic statement piece—the high-backed leather moon chair with Swarovski crystals. Shag rugs and gold-painted ceiling and walls add to the allure, as does the vintage El Cortez backdrop image that runs the length of one entire wall.
