My brother is gay. I’m straight. But, together we had a blast at Temptation Sundays at Luxor, the Strip’s original gay pool party. Whatever your sexual preference, if you’re in the mood for some poolside fun and relaxation, then Temptation is the spot. It’s a good time. It’s a memorable party. And it’s welcoming and open to everyone.

“We’re the longest-running gay pool party in Las Vegas,” says Tim Evans, director of marketing at Luxor and one of the creators of the pool party. “We offer our guests a very inclusive environment. … It’s been described as a chill vibe. It’s a place to come relax and enjoy a sunny afternoon in Vegas, just hang out with your friends. I mention the inclusive nature because even though we call it a “gay pool party,” I can tell you our demographic is widely varied. We have a lot of straight couples that come; our lesbian community will attend; we have a number of transgender individuals who come. Everyone feels very comfortable, very included and very safe. I think that’s been something that I’m really proud to say—it’s an environment that we’ve been able to create for them.”

Evans, along with popular local personality and host of Temptation Sundays J.Son, and with the support of Luxor and MGM Resorts, created the gay pool party in 2010, and nine seasons later it has become a must-do in Las Vegas. Every year the pool party team has upped its game in offering guests an enjoyable Sunday and fun ways to celebrate poolside. This year, there’s talk of the new WNBA team, the Las Vegas Aces, hosting one of the days, as well as the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity taking over a day. Thanks to Park Theater and House of Blues, there are also raffles for ticket giveaways to shows at both venues. There’s also guest DJs, go-go boys, fashion shows, Pride celebrations and special guest hosts throughout the summer.

For those looking for the poolside VIP experience, Temptation has you covered. There’s multiple cabanas as well as padded VIP lounge chairs and spacious day beds. To make your day at the pool extra sweet, book that cabana, which includes entry into the pool party for up to six guests. Each cabana comes with four padded lounge chairs, flat-screen TV, misting system and mini fridge.

For the cherry on top, order the “Everything But The Mariachis” food-and-beverage package. A personal chef will grill up street tacos with all the fixings right at your cabana and also bring along a case of Corona, Modelo or Dos Equis beer and a bottle of El Jimador tequila. Even if you’re not in a cabana you can still order a party cooler package—a cooler will be wheeled right up to you, and inside you’ll find plenty of goodies like sandwiches, chips, sodas and beer.

At the end of our day at Temptation Sundays, both my brother and I had made some new friends and we both enjoyed the plentiful eye candy. He went back to the East Coast with one fabulous memory of a Las Vegas pool party, and I left with one fabulous memory of a local pool party I’ll definitely be returning to ... only this time with my husband.

“We were able to build this incredibly successful event just by creating that welcoming, inclusive environment,” says Evans. Absolutely.
