It may not have occurred to Peter Noone when he first read the lyrics to “I’m Into Something Good” that he’d be singing the 1964 hit more than 50 years later with his band, Herman’s Hermits. The eternally youthful vocalist certainly thought fortune was on his side when his band Herman’s Hermits was discovered by powerful ’60s producer Mickie Most. “I’m Into Something Good” became a No. 1 hit in the U.K., and the Hermits became the clean-cut ambassadors of the British Invasion in the wake of the Beatles’ successful occupation of the U.S. record charts.
Herman’s Hermits had two No. 1 singles in the U.S. with “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” and “I’m Henry the Eighth, I Am.” They’d have more hits on both sides of the Atlantic before breaking up in 1971. Noone went solo and released a cover of David Bowie’s “Oh You Pretty Things,” but gradually found more success in theater and television. A four-year stint as the host of VH1’s My Generation familiarized audiences with Noone once more, and he’s been successful on the nostalgia circuit. In addition to his own band’s songs, Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone has recently covered ’60s hits such as “Love Potion No. 9,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Folsom Prison Blues” in concert.
