The bright blue faces of the stars of Blue Man Group have become as recognizable as Elvis Presley or Liberace in the pantheon of Las Vegas icons. Although the experimental, wordless theater production started in New York City in 1991, it was the expansion to Vegas in 2000 that really turned Blue Man Group into a pop-culture phenomenon.

The show has performed in several showrooms in Las Vegas over the years, but since 2015 has been back in its original Vegas home at Luxor, where the vision of creators Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton is still the driving force. BMG’s acquisition by Cirque du Soleil in 2017 has the oddball brand poised for its most substantial expansion yet.

The founding trio of Blue Men have long since passed the torch to other performers, but the nature of the BMG show means that anyone can embody the title characters, deadpan pranksters who are a cross between silent comedians like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton and avant-garde performance artists. The Blue Men explore the absurdity of modern life via multimedia content, audience participation, homemade instruments, live painting and a surprising amount of snack foods including Twinkies, all combined into a surreal but family-friendly show with a percussive soundtrack.
