Ring the Bell

A few things you probably don’t know about heavy metal pioneers Blue Öyster Cult: They formed in 1967 as Soft White Underbelly, and officially became Blue Öyster Cult in 1971. Their band’s discography includes more than 20 studio and live albums—but doesn’t include the first two albums, which were shelved by Elektra Records. BOC’s first manager, main lyricist and producer was Sandy Pearlman, one of rock music’s first influential critics. Now here’s one thing you probably do know about Blue Öyster Cult: One of their biggest hits, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,” was the centerpiece of the classic Saturday Night Live skit in which Christopher Walken plays the song’s producer who implores Will Ferrell to cure his fever with “more cowbell!” Back to what you don’t know: The song’s actual producer, David Lucas, played the cowbell on the track. –Matt Jacob

Nacho Daddy

Nacho Daddy

It’s so much more than just a plate of nachos. This is what Vegas-born Nacho Daddy claims. They also claim you’ll never find a dry chip in your order. So far, the Daddy don’t lie.

With multiple locations across the city, the downtown Nacho Daddy location is a cool haunt with a great happy hour (3-6 p.m. daily) and an excellently priced Taco & Tequila Tuesday, with street taco specials and 2-for-1 tequila shots.

Since its arrival in Vegas in 2010, Nacho Daddy has become a local and tourist favorite with its “gourmet nachos,” tasty chips, and salsas and quesos, made fresh and in-house, daily. The Mexican-American eatery has kept up with the trends, too, by offering an amazingly tasty vegan menu. Yes, vegan nachos!

And in honor of our hometown heroes, Nacho Daddy offers the Vegas Golden Knights Nachos—corn chips with marinated filet mignon, jack and cheddar cheeses, yellow queso, sautéed onions, mushrooms, red and green peppers and pickled peppers. –Kiko Miyasato
