For fans of both classic and current Styx, it really doesn’t get any better than this: This week, admirers of the group get to see the six-piece ensemble perform two sets, one featuring the hits they have known and loved over the years and other showcasing current offering The Mission in its entirety.
While the lineup has changed throughout the years (most notable is the absence of Dennis DeYoung), original members James “J.Y.” Young and Chuck Panozzo still hold down the guitar and bass respectively and contribute to vocals.
Tommy Shaw, the band member who has found the most solo success, has been with the group on and off for 30 years. When Shaw takes the lead, Styx bangs with the best of them. Hit singles featuring his voice include “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man),” “Too Much Time on My Hands” and the live rocker “Renegade.”
Current album The Mission was released in 2017 and, like much of Styx’s greatest work, it’s a concept album. This one is about a mission to Mars and it’s the band’s highest-charting album since their most famous fellow concept record, Kilroy Was Here (1983). Blast off with Styx as they continue to explore worlds known and unknown.
