It’s a time of transition for Jeremy Piven. The charismatic actor has committed to performing stand-up comedy regularly, a field in which he has dabbled in since 2008. His current run includes stops in Israel and top clubs in the United States such as the Cap City Comedy Club in Austin, Texas, and a run of Improvs: Pittsburgh, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, San Jose and Irvine.
While his stand-up prowess remains largely unknown, one thing is for certain: Piven is comfortable onstage. Both of his parents were drama teachers and actors, and Piven spent a good amount of time at their Piven Theater Workshop, along with the National Theater Institute.
His knack for comedic timing has been on display in many films and television shows. He had a memorable turn portraying a fictionalized version of the already fictional character George Costanza when the characters of Jerry and George sold a pilot based on Jerry’s life in Seinfeld. He’s also had roles in movies such as Grosse Pointe Blank, PCU, Singles and Old School.
Of course, Piven is most famous for Ari Gold, his character on the HBO show Entourage, for which the 53-year-old actor won three consecutive Emmys and a Golden Globe award. Now, like Gold, Piven looks to “hug it out” with his audience, via laughs.
