Bobby Brown and Bell Biv DeVoe reunite as RBRM
You could call New Edition a boy band, but the ’80s hitmakers are so much more than that. The members helped formulate New Jack Swing, which fused hip-hop with R&B in the ’90s and remains a major influence on current R&B and pop, and when they went their separate ways in 1990, they launched multiple successful spin-off careers. The six members of New Edition have reunited in various configurations to tour and record over the years, and the group reached a whole new audience thanks to the hit miniseries The New Edition Story, which aired on BET in 2017.
The individual members are so successful that it can be tough for them to line up their touring schedules, but that isn’t stopping Bobby Brown and Bell Biv DeVoe (featuring New Edition’s Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe) from teaming up under the name RBRM for a tour showcasing their respective post-New Edition careers. For Brown, that includes huge pop hits like “My Prerogative,” “Every Little Step” and “Don’t Be Cruel,” and for Bell Biv DeVoe, it’s ’90s MTV staples “Poison” and “Do Me!” With a full band and dancers, RBRM put on a show worthy of the New Edition legacy.
