Over the course of just a few years, R&B singer Khalid has proven that one of the most reliable ways to score a hit single is to hire him as a guest star. Artists including Logic (“1-800-273-8255”), Calvin Harris (“Rollin’”), Marshmello (“Silence”), Lorde (“Homemade Dynamite”), Shawn Mendes (“Youth”) and Martin Garrix (“Ocean”) have had massive success with songs featuring Khalid, giving the young singer and songwriter a whole greatest-hits package worth of material without even touching on his solo releases.

He’s had plenty of hits as a lead artist as well, starting with his 2016 breakout single “Location,” which gathered momentum on SoundCloud and via social media before hitting the mainstream. Khalid’s 2017 debut album American Teen was released just a month after his 19th birthday, and by age 21 he’d become the most-streamed artist on Spotify worldwide. He followed up “Location” with bigger and bigger hits, including “Young Dumb & Broke,” “Love Lies” (featuring Normani of Fifth Harmony) and “Better,” and released his second album, Free Spirit, in April. Khalid is one of the brightest young stars in pop music, and it’s no wonder that everyone from superstar Pink to K-pop group BTS is clamoring to collaborate with him.
