It was the early 1990s, and the Las Vegas Strip was in the midst of a massive makeover. New megaresorts had been opening up and down The Strip, and a French-Canadian theatrical production company took up residence at brand-new Treasure Island, debuting a show that offered a jaw-dropping twist on the circus.

As Cirque du Soleil’s first venture on the Strip, Mystère didn’t just raise the proverbial bar, it bent, hung from and balanced on it, all to the amazement of audiences that began packing a 1,600-seat, state-of-the-art theater on Dec. 25, 1993. Besides blazing a trail for five other Cirque productions that currently have homes on the Strip, Mystère established a sky-high expectation level for the entire Strip entertainment community to continuously push the envelope. Perhaps the greatest compliment one can pay to Mystère: Despite incorporating just a few modest changes over the past quarter century, it continues to attract fans new and old, still dropping jaws five nights a week.
