On the Scene with Brock Radke: OneRepublic, "O" and more
Hits on High
As a born-in-Colorado band, OneRepublic has performed several times at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. But last month’s gig was special as the group behind hits “Counting Stars” and “If I Lose Myself” was backed by the Colorado Symphony for two nights of unforgettable musical performance in the most picturesque concert setting possible.
Anchored by solo artist, producer and writer Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic continues to thrive and dabble in different pop genres, and these special shows only reinforced the group’s diverse style. The tour continues with a stop at the Pearl Theater at the Palms on Sept. 13 before OneRepublic performs in New York City as part of The Today Show summer concert series on Sept. 27.
Between its astounding fountain show, seasonally changing conservatory and brilliant Dale Chihuly glass flower sculptures that adorn the hotel lobby ceiling, Bellagio offers some of the most memorable visuals on the Las Vegas Strip. But it’s impossible to top Cirque du Soleil’s “O”. Just when you think you’ve adjusted your perception to this strange aquatic world, a new, unbelievable element emerges, like a ship that hovers above the water’s surface and sways back and forth while acrobats defy physics from this floating foundation, or a team of pyro artists that produce spectacular and cinematic scenery. “O” is more than a show, it’s a visual adventure, and it’s waiting to inspire you all over again at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Around the Strip
Model Sofia Richie, the youngest daughter of Lionel Richie, spent a weekend in Vegas celebrating her 21st birthday. Dressed in a Chanel bathing suit, Richie hit Encore Beach Club with boyfriend Scott Disick and a large group of party pals dancing to the sounds of resident DJ Alesso. Kylie Jenner joined for dinner that night at Cipriani before the group landed at XS Nightclub to catch the Chainsmokers.
There was another celeb birthday bash at XS that same Friday night. Actor Evan Ross, daughter of Encore Theater resident Diana Ross, caught his mom’s concert and then hit the club for a celebration with singer wife Ashlee Simpson Ross and other friends to mark his 31st birthday.
It was a packed house at Kaos to catch resident rapper Cardi B’s latest performance, and she didn’t disappoint. She kicked off her thigh-high Christian Louboutin boots after her first song and completed her set barefoot, bringing husband Offset from Migos onstage for a duet.
You might recognize entertainer Chester Lockhart from RuPaul’s Drag Race or his cameo in Taylor Swift’s video for “You Need to Calm Down.” Or you may have spotted him in the crowd recently at Magic Mike Live at the Hard Rock Hotel.
Kacey Musgraves stuck around to celebrate her 31st birthday after opening her Oh What A World Tour II show at The Cosmopolitan’s Chelsea. After the concert, she hit the Golden Tiki in Las Vegas’ Chinatown district.
