The three upcoming Eagles shows in Vegas are not only the veteran classic-rock band’s sole concerts of 2019, but also possibly the only chance for anyone to see the group performing its seminal 1976 album Hotel California in its entirety. Although Hotel California is the Eagles’ best-selling album of original material and one of the best-selling albums of all time, the band has never before played it in full, and some of the songs haven’t been played live in many years. Deep cut “Try and Love Again” hasn’t been part of an Eagles live set since 1979.
Of course, Hotel California hits like the title track, “Life in the Fast Lane” and “New Kid in Town” have been played at nearly every Eagles show (and all over rock radio) since the album was released. The Eagles have kept a slightly lower profile since the 2016 death of founding singer-guitarist Glenn Frey, but with Frey’s son Deacon and country veteran Vince Gill filling in (alongside Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit), the band has started performing more regularly, with a renewed sense of purpose. These Hotel California shows honor the band’s past while offering a look at its future.
