Peter Frampton isn’t about to go quietly. The singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso revealed his struggle with a degenerative muscular disease earlier this year, and he’s set out to make the most out of the time he still has left to play music. He released an album of blues covers titled All Blues in June, and he’s been busy recording enough new material for at least three more albums. He’s also embarked on an extensive farewell tour, giving his fans a final chance to see him perform live, while he’s still able to play well enough to satisfy his own high standards.

“I’m a perfectionist and I do not want to go out there and feel like, ‘Oh I can’t, this isn’t good,’” Frampton told CBS News. “I know that I will be at the top of my game for this tour.” The man behind iconic songs like “Show Me the Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do” (and the landmark 1976 concert album Frampton Comes Alive!) couldn’t conceive of offering audiences anything less than his best, and he’ll continue giving his best for as long as he possibly can.
