Since the March shutdown of the Las Vegas Strip due to the coronavirus pandemic, dozens of Strip properties have reopened their doors. On Aug. 27, visitors to Las Vegas will be able to add one more property to that list: The Mirage, an iconic resort and casino that all but ushered in the megaresort era in Las Vegas when it first opened more than 30 years ago.

MGM Resorts International’s CEO and president Bill Hornbuckle announced in a statement on Friday that the property would reopen on Aug. 27. “Reopening The Mirage allows us to bring many more of our employees back to work, which is critical in the recovery of our community,” Hornbuckle said in the statement.

There’s little information as to what venues in the resort will reopen, but Hornbuckle said all safety protocols in place at all other reopened MGMRI properties would be observed at The Mirage. Those include a mandatory mask policy, temperature checks, plexiglass barriers, social distancing and enhanced cleaning all guestrooms and shared spaces.

The Mirage has enjoyed a long and storied history since opening in 1989. For years, it was the home of headliners Siegfried & Roy; one of Cirque du Soleil’s biggest hits, The Beatles LOVE, has its theater there; and America’s Got Talent winner Terry Fator has been a headliner there for more than 10 years.
