A long time ago, Las Vegas had a famously bad zoo. Never heard of it? Be glad you didn’t. Because the city didn’t need it. There have long been alternatives to zoos in Las Vegas anyway, and for the last 20 years Shark Reef Aquarium has delivered a quality educational experience where one could view not only a variety of sharks, but other forms of aquatic life and exotic animals.

Shark Reef starts off as a jungle of sorts. Its humid climate may seem a bit uncomfortable at first, but it’s the perfect environment for the Johnston’s crocodiles and Komodo dragons.

You’ll then walk through exhibits that include piranhas, pythons and stingrays until you reach the main attraction. In the shark exhibit, which resembles a shipwreck, you’ll find some of the bad boys of the deep, such as the sand tiger, bonnet head and blacktip reef sharks.
