When it opened more than 26 years ago, Mystère became the first Cirque du Soleil production to have its own permanent Las Vegas residency with a custom-designed theater. Its success was so strong, it set the stage for an empire that currently includes seven shows on the Strip by the Montreal production company.

Mystère popularized aerialists, contortionists and other acts now common in Las Vegas yet even in 2020, it never feels dated. The show is just as captivating as ever, thanks in part to colorful costumes, live music, and a stage that drops, lifts, rotates and changes shape within a fantastical, whimsical environment. Even a trapeze routine, which might seem old hat on paper, feels fresh, earning its spot as a climactic moment in the show.

Mystère follows a loose “circle of life” theme that’s more about imagery than plotline. The parade of characters, which include a snail that grows in size throughout the show and a large baby played for laughs, appear and disappear at a frequent pace, making for a show that’s never boring and breezes through its 90-minute runtime. Stage productions come and go quickly in Las Vegas, but Mystère seems destined to stick around at least another 26 years. Discover for yourself this timeless classic.
