Last year, Westgate Las Vegas celebrated 50 amazing years of history as the city’s first true megaresort. During the same period, headliner Barry Manilow delivered his 500th performance inside its famed International Theater. It was a landmark moment in his illustrious career ... the kind of achievement that solidifies Manilow’s inclusion in Las Vegas Magazine’s 2020 Hall of Fame.

As a Hall of Fame honoree, we recognize Manilow’s enduring impact, along with the myriad of ways that the singer/songwriter/producer has permanently influenced the Las Vegas entertainment landscape. One of his Vegas contributions goes back to 1988, when the Brooklyn-born artist first performed on the International Theater stage.

Now the singer has returned with another great season of Manilow: The Hits Come Home! A spectacular hit parade, it opened in the summer of 2018 to universal acclaim. Westgate recently announced an extension of The Hits Come Home! through 2020, ensuring that fans from around the world would have the opportunity to experience one of the world’s greatest showmen in Las Vegas where he belongs.

You might think that, at 76 years old, the man who “writes the songs the whole world sing” would want to take it easy ... or at least to play it safe. But Manilow is not that kind of entertainer. In between appearances at Westgate, he’s played dates in Hollywood and New York City while simultaneously prepping his long-gestating original musical Harmony for an New York run.

2017 saw the release of This Is My Town: Songs of New York, the artist’s 31st studio album. A love letter to his hometown, it peaked at No. 12 on Billboard’s Top 200 list. That same year, the music-charting magazine officially honored Manilow’s “hot streak” of 26 top 40 albums, a dozen top 40 singles in the previous 15 years and at least one top 40 album in each of the previous five decades.

With such an extensive discography, it’s easy to pack The Hits Come Home! with a massive selection of beloved tunes, such as “Can’t Smile Without You.” Manilow delivers them with over-the-top energy, backed by a stunning live band and a team of dazzling dancers. The superstar never seems to leave the stage, sitting still only when he’s mesmerizing the crowd from behind the piano.

International Theater’s grand stage utilizes dynamic backdrops and sets befitting a songbook of this scope. Even with so much space at his disposal, Manilow can’t be contained. A complex circular structure lowers from the ceiling and extends across the auditorium, enabling the entertainer to literally bring the show into the audience and up to the balcony.

The man whose mind gave birth to many advertising jingles (from Band-Aid bandages to State Farm Insurance) never takes himself too seriously. Self-deprecating humor pokes fun at hair and clothing from previous eras, especially when crossing into “Copacabana” territory. Audience members are presented with 3D glasses and glowsticks to join in the frivolity for a pair of riotous sequences.

With countless awards and a legacy that’s hard to match, Barry Manilow could simply sit at a microphone and deliver a satisfying show ... but that’s not his style. Manilow: The Hits Come Home! is the star’s biggest production yet, a true blue spectacle and everything that a Manilow fan could wish for.
