It was the night after Christmas when all through the theater not a creature was stirring as Criss Angel performed his greatest illusion, a levitation trick. Unlike other evenings, this was the first anniversary of MINDFREAK at Planet Hollywood Resort, for which Criss Angel received a standing ovation at the close of the show. Four evenings later, he’d receive a late anniversary present when the Dec. 30 show became his highest grossing ever, only to be outsold two nights later.
Angel had already passed the 11-year mark as a Las Vegas headliner, but Planet Hollywood Resort was his original headquarters in Vegas, where he set out on journeys to make magic in public for his Criss Angel: Mindfreak television show. Bringing it all back home to Planet Hollywood Resort with a decade’s worth of headlining experience and cutting-edge technology enabled Angel to create a show beyond what he was capable of imagining while growing up on Long Island.
An enveloping sound system with 150 speakers, 90 surface areas handling half a billion pixels of video and a constellation of moving lights make MINDFREAK as much a feast for the senses as it is an illusionists’ dream.
