If you are looking for ways to celebrate Day of the Dead in Las Vegas in this COVID-19 era, Las Vegas still has plenty of options for you. Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration that starts Nov. 1 and ends on Nov. 2, and is a day of remembrance and celebration with the spirits of the dead, who return to the physical world during that time. Head out to one of our many Mexican restaurants and enjoy specialty food and drink items. Here are just a few to try:
At Elio (702.770.3463) this weekend, the new restaurant at Encore that was inspired by Mexican celebratory traditions, you can order a delicious margarita such as the Player’s Margarita, with upscale tequila Casa Dragones Blanco, Giffard triple sec, Combier triple sec, lime and and herb salt for $24. On Nov. 2, Casa Dragones is actually unveiling a new ofrenda (an altar) in its hometown of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Elio’s beverage director will be highlighting a fall cocktail during the event.
In the Cosmopolitan, China Poblano by José Andés (877.893.2001) offers a special menu of items through Nov. 2, and dedicates its ofrenda to Josefina Velázquez de León, a pioneering Mexican chef and author. Find such specialty items as hibiscus flower tacos, sopa Azteca with heirloom tomato broth, a braised oxtail tamale with mole negro and pumpkin flan.
Borracha Mexican Cantina (702.489.2129), with a Day of the Dead-inspired mural and décor in Green Valley Ranch offers specially priced tequila shots, palomas and margaritas on Oct. 31 in honor of the holiday. Also, stop in to Mexico City-inspired El Dorado Cantina on the Strip (702.722.2289) and in Tivoli Village (702.333.1112) this weekend for a special holiday menu.
