Blues fans will no doubt be flocking to Las Vegas this week to catch one of the genre’s hottest guitarists, Joe Bonamassa. He’s one of the best-selling blues guitarists of this generation, 11 of his 15 solo albums hitting number one on the Billboard Blues charts. His style recalls the sounds of Cream, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, while still feeling completely original.

He’s been more or less a phenom from the age of 12, when he formed his first band. Since then, he’s jammed with legends like B.B. King, Greg Allman, Eric Clapton and Paul Rodgers. He also has direct ties to Las Vegas: His album Different Shades of Blue, which charted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, was recorded at the Palms.

Part of the fun of a Bonamassa show is seeing what instruments he’ll bring onstage—he’s an avid collector of vintage guitars and amplifiers, compiling hundreds over his decades-long career, including several “burst” Gibson Les Paul Standards from 1958-’68, considered holy grails for guitar enthusiasts.
