The only thing oppressive about Las Vegas is the heat. Thank goodness for air conditioning in every casino and hotel. But when you need some time away from the slots and table games—and wandering around outside in 100-degree-plus heat is not ideal—we suggest nine fun spots to still get your Vegas on while keeping cool.
1. Minus5 and Icebar (The Venetian, 702.293.3388; Mandalay Bay, 702.740.5800; The Linq Promenade, 702.489.3545) Freezing temps definitely keep you cool, in fact too cool, when you hit up any of the three lounges made completely of ice. Admission includes a parka or faux-fur coat and gloves. Step inside to see some awesome ice sculpture and have a cocktail in a glass made of ice.
2. Vegas Indoor Skydiving (200 Convention Center Drive, 702.731.4768) Besides the stomach-flipping fears of jumping out of an actual airplane and the fact that’s it’s too darn hot to ride in the sky without air conditioning, try something just as thrill-seeking with Vegas Indoor Skydiving. The 1,000-horsepower motor propeller inside the wind tunnel gives fliers the sensation of free-falling and provides an abundance of wind.
3. Topgolf Las Vegas (4627 Koval Lane, 702.933.8458) Yes, it’s outdoors, but the more than 120 hitting bays are all climate controlled. Test your golf swing skills while enjoying a large menu of eats and drinks. Topgolf also offers VIP cabanas, several bars and even two swimming pools.
4. Bodies … The Exhibition (Luxor, 702.262.4400) See exactly what the heat can do to your body when you learn all about the human form while walking through the fascinating—and nice and air-conditioned—Bodies ... The Exhibition at Luxor. Get an up-close, inside look at 13 real, whole-body specimens plus more than 250 organs and partial body specimens that have been preserved through an innovative process and put on display.
5. Conservatory & Botanical Gardens (Bellagio,702.693.7111) It’s indoors, but you’ll feel as if you’re outdoors—but still able to keep nice and cool. Wander through the Bellagio’s stunning new summer display at the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. This year’s seasonal theme celebrates the elements of life: earth, wind, water and fire. More than 30,000 plants and flowers were used to create beautiful scenes.
6. 108 Eats (The STRAT, 800.998.6937) Cool down, grab a bite and catch some of the best views of the city from The STRAT’s 108th floor. At 108 Eats, comfy sofas face the floor-to-ceiling windows, creating the perfect spot to enjoy ice cream, Oreo-covered popcorn, paninis and house-made bakery treats.
7. FSLV (The STRAT, 800.998.6937) With more than 250 of the world’s top brand names in fashion, accessories, electronics, home goods, toys and beauty products, spending hours indoors at the shopping complex is an easy feat. And plenty of food options will keep you charged.
8. Area15 (3215 S. Rancho Drive, 702.846.1900) Everything fun—for kids and adults—exists inside the huge arts and entertainment hub known as Area15. Keep cool while dining, drinking and tripping out on interactive art experiences like Omega Mart, the world’s weirdest grocery store.
9. Adventuredome (Circus Circus, 800.634.3450) The whole family can keep cool at this indoor amusement park. The pink dome is filled with more than two dozen rides—including roller coasters—for every age. Other fun includes carnival games, clown shows and bungee jumping.
