Whether you’re a faithful soldier of the BTS ARMY or you really don’t know much about the group that has taken the musical world by storm, learn some fun facts about the K-Pop phenomenon. They bring their Permission To Dance Tour to Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium this week and next (April 8-9 & 15-16) while simultaneously live streaming the concert at MGM Grand’s Garden Arena. 

• BTS means “Bangtan Sonyeondan” in Korean; translated into English, it means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts.”

Jin, 29, can play the piano, guitar and ukulele.

• The group is from South Korea, forming in 2013.

Jungkook, 24, has a huge social media presence—he’s racked up more than 20 million views in under 24 hours on Instagram.

• Considered the underdogs in South Korea, the group first made it big in the U.S. through social media before they climbed to the top of the charts in their country.

RM, 27, says he learned English by watching Friends.

• In 2019, BTS released single “Boy with Luv” featuring Halsey. The music video garnered almost 75 million views on the first day of its release.

J-Hope, 28, has a solo career that has brought him much success—he’s the highest-charting solo K-Pop artist on Billboard 200 to date.

• “Permission to Dance” was released in 2021 as a stand-alone single and debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The song it replaced? BTS’ “Butter.”

Suga, 29, used to be an underground rapper before joining BTS.

• “Dynamite” is the group’s first song to be recorded entirely in English and their first No. 1 single in the U.S. On Spotify, it became the biggest opening day for a song in 2020, with nearly 8 million streams.

V, 26, can play the saxophone, has a deep voice perfect for R&B, and is a huge fan of Elvis’ music.

• BTS’ fan base numbers more than 40 million and calls itself ARMY, which stands for “Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth.”

Jimin, 26, was a professional dancer studying contemporary dance before joining the group.

• BTS is the biggest-selling group in South Korean history.

• They’re the first K-Pop group to top the Billboard 200 with third studio album Love Yourself: Tear from 2018.

• They released the best-selling album in South Korean history, their fourth studio album Map of the Soul: 7, in 2020.

• A remix of the song “Butter,” with Megan Thee Stallion, almost didn’t happen. The story goes that her record label thought BTS wouldn’t pair well with the rapper, but Megan fought with the label, even going to court to make the song happen.
