Cirque Du Soleil’s latest show Mad Apple is just like the city it represents, New York City, the Big Apple: Lots of sass and sometimes crass with moments of beauty and dazzling spectacle!
Guests are treated to a visual feast, what Cirque is so well-known for, and combines that with the artistic pillars of NYC.
Hip-hop and sports, always a huge part of the city and here you’ll get both by way of some stunning gymnastics and acrobatic basketball antics, while old-school hip-hop music and breakdancing round out the vignette.
Another big cultural movement born from the city streets and gay community is voguing, and here you’ll see the fabulous moves down the runway before checking out an enchanting woman twist and seduce with dance as she hangs from a rope by her ponytail! Also getting some airtime are a couple who intertwine while performing awesome aerial moves that’ll make you gasp.
The musical personality of New York continues through several other vignettes, one where two talented men use one another’s bodies to flip (never flop!) and twist high into the air while a trio of musicians serenade with trumpets and drums. A group of singers takes the audience through truly beautiful renditions of some of New York’s favorite odes like “Living for the City,” “On Broadway” and “Empire State of Mind.” And for you YouTube lovin’ folks, America’s Got Talent act and YouTube stars, The Brown Brothers take a journey through music’s biggest hits while using their voices to impersonate a whole slew of stars like Frank Sinatra, Bruno Mars, Elvis, Mickey Mouse, The Beatles, Queen, Goofy, Chris Martin, Backstreet Boys, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Bee Gees.
While many comedians got their start on the club stages of New York City, of course comedy makes it into the show and comedian Harrison Greenbaum unabashedly works the crowd with his off-the-wall, envelope-pushing stand-up while throwing in some pretty amazing magical talents.
Just like the city, Mad Apple just doesn’t sleep. It continuously hits the audience with visual and auditory delights, all aided by a very talented cast and live band, and enough New York City personality to make it one juicy and delicious show.
