To say it has been quite a year for Adele would be a massive understatement. The year began with her postponing her eagerly anticipated show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, a move that proved highly polarizing among her fans and the media. But with such downs come the massive ups, and Adele’s show, which finally premiered a few weeks ago, is definitely the latter. It’s drawing rave reviews, and looks to be a production that will remain on the Strip for some time to come.
Weekends With Adele combines the superstar’s greatest hits with the kind of production Las Vegas is famous for. There’s a bit of everything here, from plaintive, quiet performances to larger-than-life production numbers, from large projection screens displaying animation to the star herself going into the audience to press flesh. Heck, she even launches T-shirts into the audience with a cannon! If you can envision it, odds are it’s in this show.
Highlights include “Hello,” which is just Adele and a pianist, “Set Fire to the Rain,” with flames interspersing with showers, “Take It All,” featuring a trio of backup singers and a pianist, and “Rolling in the Deep,” which features a backdrop of everything from small images of women dancing in unison in small windows to a screen-filling shot of crashing waves.
The production is highly personalized as well. During “When We Were Young,” confetti that falls into the audience is actually pictures from Adele’s childhood. Weekends With Adele is quite the capper to a year that the star—and her fans—will never forget.
