The genesis of Starship featuring Mickey Thomas is almost as famous as its songs, neither of which have lost their appeal to generations of music fans (and, to a slightly lesser extent, moviegoers, who can’t ever hear the song “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” without thinking about the movie Mannequin). It goes all the way back to Jefferson Airplane in the 1960s, which spun off into iterations Jefferson Starship, Starship Jefferson, Starship and, ultimately, the group that will be performing at Golden Nugget on Jan. 28.
It’s a long and winding road, to be sure, but all you really need to know is that you’ll hear all the hits you know and love, including “Jane,” “Sara,” “We Built This City,” “No Way Out,” “It’s Not Over Til It’s Over” and so many more. Thomas will also include cuts from his work with other groups, including “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with the Elvin Bishop Band (another song that’s almost impossible to separate from the iconic movie it was featured in, Boogie Nights).
Golden Nugget, 8 p.m Jan. 28, starting at $39 plus tax and fee. 800.745.3000 Ticketmaster
