If you’re looking for a quick side trip while you’re in town, you can’t get any quicker than a ride at FlyOver Las Vegas, where you’ll be transported to another locale in seconds. To celebrate its first anniversary on the Strip, FlyOver recently launched its third ride film here, Windborne: Call of the Canadian Rockies. It’s not only gorgeous, it’s also a bit different from the other films currently showing.

You’ll notice this in the preshow, where you’ll see the director’s father appearing in educational footage that is interspersed with film of the Rockies, and in storylines that wind throughout, from narration by Blackfoot elder Peter Strikes With A Gun to a child discovering locales throughout the Rockies. It is impressed on you how the land is all of ours, to enjoy, to conquer, and to take care of. It’s a powerful message, as powerful as the attraction itself.

Inside the theater, you’ll rise only a few feet in the air, but it’ll feel like hundreds of feet, so encompassing is the view in front of the 52-and-a-half-foot screen. Seriously, you can glance sideways and you’ll still be looking at the landscape, which includes footage of Banff, Jasper and Yoho national parks. As you fly through different landscapes, the theater seems to be filled with mist, and you’ll smell the fresh air.

The natural beauty of the Rockies is seen in everything from lakes and rocky mountainsides to rushing rivers and frozen walls of ice. Watch Blackfoot men test themselves with their horses, and ascend to the top of high peaks. Peer at some of the most famous athletes in Canada as they pit themselves against the environment, like ice climber Will Gadd on the way up the Curtain Call in the Columbia Icefield. And each vignette you fly through reminds you of the glory of the land and the responsibility we bear to it.
