It’s unclear if most bands whose music falls into the category of “yacht rock” are happy with that designation, but one thing is for sure: Ambrosia embraces it fully and without reservation. The group even made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon as part of the show’s “Yacht Rock 2K11” theme, performing two of the songs that would help define the ’70s: “Biggest Part of Me” and “How Much I Feel.”
The California-based group, which started with David Pack, Joe Puerta, Christopher North and Burleigh Drummond, is one of those groups that, when seeing them in concert, you find yourself constantly saying, “Oh! I didn’t know they did this song.”
Their canon is full of earworms you immediately begin humming to a few bars in, from “You’re the Only Woman,” “Holdin’ on to Yesterday,” “How Long” and so many more. And they’ll be bringing all those sounds and many more to Golden Nugget this week when they perform live.
The band’s current iteration features most of the original members, including Puerta, Drummond and North, with Kipp Lennon replacing Pack as lead vocalist. There will be plenty of memory-jogging moments in the show, and with the good vibes their music engenders, you may be looking around for the nearest yacht.
Golden Nugget, 8 p.m. July 14, starting at $39 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com
