David Spade and Nikki Glaser, two of stand-up’s biggest stars, could easily fill any room on the Strip by themselves, but they are currently serving as a one-two comedy punch on the Las Vegas Strip, and if their initial appearance at The Venetian Theatre is any indication, this is a pairing that could continue for some time.
Glaser starts thing off with a bawdy bang, launching into everything from role-playing with her partner (including the appearance of an unexpected video game character) to the effects of aging and the illusion that any of us will look like Jennifer Aniston or Jennifer Lopez if we use the products they endorse. Glaser’s act is no holds barred, at times approaching a level of obscenity that will perk up the ears of even the most jaded audiences.
Not that Glaser’s audience was jaded, or that her obscenity wasn’t hilarious. Quite the opposite on both counts, in fact. Her set was a brilliant setup for Spade, whose mellow, laid-back style is the perfect foil for Glaser’s hyper-aware persona.
Spade makes the most of the silent spaces between bits, often picking up on audience activity or the odd word heard here and there. He even notices the spotlight operator, zinging a few humorous thoughts his (or her) way. It’s all done in a good-natured, humorous way. Here’s to many more appearances by this dynamic duo.
The Venetian, 8:30 p.m. June 30 and July 1, starting at $49 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com
