The Red Hot Chili Peppers brings its Global Stadium Tour to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the second time Saturday evening, playing its second concert after a five-week break. The band crisscrossed North America after heating up the stage at Allegiant Stadium in August, then traversed the Pacific Ocean for dates in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Japan. Making space for a break gave the supergroup a chance to rest and reset before burnout from travel could make its performances anything less than red hot. The boys will need a break after wrapping the tour in Europe this summer, so this spring’s leg may be the last time to catch the funk-punk combo in the U.S. for a while. The Vegas date won’t be a repeat of August, either. The band has been varying setlists in the tour, enhancing the spontaneity of its customary high-energy performances.
The band’s latest album, Return of the Dream Canteen, was released two months after the August Allegiant Stadium show. That setlist ranged from Mother’s Milk material to songs from Unlimited Love, which marked the return of guitarist John Frusciante. Fans in Vegas heard that album’s opener “Black Summer” and the tour debut of “Blood Sugar Sex Magik,” but Japanese audiences experienced Dream Canteen tracks such as “Tippa My Tongue,” “Eddie” and “Reach Out.” Expect a fresh set by a refreshed awesome foursome.
