As it prepares to celebrate its 17th anniversary on the Strip, The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil can stake its claim to being one of the most beloved shows in Las Vegas entertainment. It’s an irresistible combination of the group’s best songs and the visuals that Cirque has become famous for, resulting in a production you want to see again and again.
The theater itself is an achievement, with speakers in each chair making you feel like you’re hearing “Yesterday,” “Here Comes the Sun” and “Octopus’s Garden” for the first time. And in a way, you are; the music mix by longtime Beatles producer George Martin and his son Giles seamlessly blends everything together, sometimes layering songs on top of songs.
Those tracks, coupled with routines ranging from synchronized rollerbladers and acrobats to dancers and aerialists, has a sublime effect—it’s almost as if the songs themselves are coming to life. And not only the songs, but some of the characters featured in those songs. You’ll meet Father McKenzie, Sgt. Pepper, Lady Madonna, Doctor Robert and many more on this magical mystery tour. Long after the lights have faded, odds are you’ll be seeing all of them in your mind’s eye next time a Beatles song comes on the radio.
The music of the Fab Four will live on forever; here’s hoping the same holds true for LOVE.
