What takes 22 truckloads of equipment, 265 speakers and 11 oversized set pieces? None other than Katy Perry’s incredible Play residency in Las Vegas, of course. Easily one of the most impressive residencies to hit the Strip, the kitschy show requires some serious star power. So let’s break it down by the numbers:
- Throughout the colorful five-act show, the star performs 20 musical numbers, including nine #1 hits. So you can certainly count on hearing your favorites along with bangers from the artist’s entire discography, from “One of the Boys” to “Smile”;
- A varied cast supports Perry, including seven band members, 12 backup dancers, two harmonizing pieces of furniture and an absolutely hysterical vaping rat. Not to mention, a team of four assist the pop star through eight costume changes, which last no longer than two and a half minutes. If you’re exceptionally lucky, you may be one of two audience members who get to be part of the action; without spoiling anything, bring your dancing shoes;
- Speaking of people, a 24-person team synchronizes to arrange each new set, including an 8-foot-by-10-foot-by-16-foot orange talking toilet and a 15-foot-by-20-foot tub that weighs more than 6,500 pounds. This week, the team will be moving those gargantuan props across the theater’s 200-foot-long stage for the 55th and 56th time;
- Spread throughout four levels, there are enough seats for 4,703 Katy Kats to witness the spectacle. If proximity is a concern, worry not; even the furthest seat from the stage is only 150 feet away.
By the time the curtain closes, you’ll certainly want to see it all over again—at least once. Luckily, after this week, there are 24 more show dates to choose from.
