So you’ve checked into your hotel and you’re planning the perfect day. Would it surprise you to know you are literally only two hours away from enjoying one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world? But yes, in about 120 minutes, you could be enjoying a zipline, amazing views from the Skywalk and so much more at the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, just one of the areas you can explore at Grand Canyon West.

If you haven’t yet experienced Skywalk, make that your priority during your day trip; the 10-foot-wide glass bridge extends 70 feet above the canyon, and you’ll really feel as if you’re floating. Yes, it can be a bit disorienting, but it’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. And once you’ve checked this off your list, schedule a zipline adventure, where you’ll soar 500 feet above the floor of a side canyon for more than a half-mile.

Another day-trip possibility (it takes a few hours longer) is Peach Springs along historic Route 66. Here you’ll be able to schedule a whitewater rafting trip on the Colorado River (check the weather reports first) or a helicopter tour deep beneath the West Rim. You can also opt to go hiking, off-roading, fishing and hunting. Best of all, after all this you get to return to your hotel room with plenty of time left to enjoy the rest of your stay. It really is the best of both worlds. And remember: Take pictures. Lots.
