One of the most impactful events of the 20th century, the discovery of King Tut’s tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 continues to pack in crowds in the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. People simply cannot get enough of the splendor of this exhibit, which has inspired American architecture, movies, music, television and fashion. In fact, it’s so iconic that even a re-creation is compelling. Case in point: Discovering King Tut’s Tomb—The Exhibition in Las Vegas.
Imagine Exhibitions painstakingly put together likenesses of all the elements that make Carter’s discovery so popular. After a brief video introduction to the attraction, you’ll visit rooms full of placards containing dates, factoids, blown-up historical photographs and more. It’s like a history lesson brought to life, and as you make your way in, the exhibit becomes more elaborate, including a chariot the boy king rode, figurines of some of Egyptian gods, headwear and shrines.
The information you’ll glean here is truly absorbing stuff, from the process of mummification to the importance of the Nile River in the Egyptian way of life. By the time you reach the sarcophagus and the nested coffins (each layer more spectacular than the rest), you’re bound to want to learn more about the world in general. You may even want to become an archaeologist.
