It was bittersweet to see The B-52s, a band that practically invented new wave music in the late-’70s and early 80’s, stop touring in 2022-’23. But it’s beyond thrilling to see the “everything’s a party” band come to Vegas annually ever since for a series of shows guaranteed to get everyone dancing in the aisles.
Frontman Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson have a healthy catalog ready for diehard fans. Expect to hear “Love Shack,” “Roam,” “Planet Claire” and “Rock Lobster” (a song that was famously cited by John Lennon in 1980 as inspiring him to not only return to writing music but also create his Double Fantasy album), as well as lesser-known but still propulsive and fun tracks.
“We want to do songs we didn’t do on the last tour and the last time we were in Vegas,” Schneider said in an interview with Las Vegas Magazine. He added that the band loves performing in Las Vegas. “The lighting’s there. We don’t have to schlep and rent stuff. Sound’s good. They’ve treated us really well.”
Schneider, who considers himself more of a comedian than vocalist, said of the group’s decision to stay put rather than tour: “I just was tired of touring. Flying is not … very rarely do we fly a private jet, so it’s like getting to the airport, going to the airport. What a chore. I’m not a people person. I just want to tell people to shut up.”
