One of the biggest Las Vegas-based sporting events last year was the inaugural Netflix Slam at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena. The tennis competition, in which Rafael Nadal faced off against Carlos Alcaraz in a three-set match, ended in a nail-biting tie break in favor of Alcaraz—and a great promotion of both Vegas and Netflix as a sports streaming platform.
The event’s success has led to another star-studded tennis event this week: The MGM Rewards Slam.
The two-day event, also at the Ultra Michelob Arena, features the world’s No. 1 men’s and women’s tennis players, along with other highly ranked professionals in what is sure to be an exciting, competitive weekend:
• On Saturday, Aryna Sabalenka, ranked No. 1 in women’s singles by the Women’s Tennis Association, takes on former No. 1 Naomi Osaka. Sabalenka has won a combined 23 career titles in singles and doubles, and is the two-time reigning Australian Open champion, while Osaka has earned four Grand Slam titles (her first two came back to back at the 2018 U.S. Open and 2019 Australian Open).
• Sunday features a four-player competition featuring Casper Ruud, No. 2-ranked Alexander Zverev, pictured right, No. 4-ranked Taylor Fritz, pictured left, and No. 9-ranked Tommy Paul. Zverev has won 23 ATP Tour titles in singles and two in doubles. He also won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“The 2024 ‘Netflix Slam’ at Mandalay Bay was a huge success and one of our most entertaining sporting events of the year,” said Lance Evans, MGM Resorts’ senior vice president of Sports and Sponsorships. “We anticipate creating another memorable event experience as tennis fans worldwide will enjoy watching the sport’s best players compete at the highest level in Las Vegas.”
